In my hometown there are many places where you can eat, however there's this one specific place that is very special to me and that I would recommend. This place, Tropical, is at 88-18 Jamaica Ave. Ever since I first came to America everything was pretty strange to me. The “common” foods here are a lot different from the “common” foods back in Ecuador. When I first came to the country I also felt very “homesick”, I missed my mother’s food and I missed the restaurants that me and my mom would go to. The first time that I went to Tropical I remember crying because I felt like I was back home. The restaurant comforted me, it made me feel safe. It's pretty silly if you think about it because I mean– how could a place comfort you?
However from then on I forced my parents to go to that restaurant with me more often. I enjoyed the comfort that Tropical’s food gave me. And I hope that more people can experience it. I would say I recommend every single thing on the menu but of course that's a bit unrealistic. The ceviche though.. its really good. If you've never tried Ecuadorian food then ceviche would be a good start. I would also recommend the lunches that they give you. They give you soup, an actual meal and a refreshing drink. The soup is amazing, I love the soup so much. For every lunch they give you two options. For example you can pick between a vegetable soup or "sopa de bola" or "ball soup". (although the name might seem odd its a good and famous Ecuadorian soup). I love my Ecuadorian side and I would love for people to know and try the foods of my culture. You should definitely go to tropical if you're looking to eat some good food and try something new.
